Last Saturday I met with screenwriter Lisa England about being one of six writers for a DVD series designed for churches. Her understanding of the written language far exceeds mine and her creativity will surely make for some thought provoking stories. The series will also pull in several filmmakers to bring the stories to screen. I had a chat with Ryan Dunlap today and discussed the possibilities of him directing two of the productions. Ryan has a great artistic eye that can create very stylistic scenes.
I continued in the communication process for negotiating a new feature that will now have the working title of Jones. I'm receiving more interest than anticipated from actors and wouldn't be surprised if this film would make a great promotional piece for a corporation to partially fund. I even read a Tweet this morning from a famous singer who is excited about the story.
To balance things out, I connected with a couple of publishers to learn what children's books might work well for film. I was introduced to a trilogy today and if all goes well, I'll be meeting with the author in two weeks to option the titles. I'm not sure if the stories will be best played out through animation or live action with lots of effects, but I have time to think that one through.
I've started to prep for meetings coming up at the NRB and hope to make great strides this year in building relationships with multiple television stations. Back when I released shows into syndication during the 80s, I worked with some 300 general managers. More recently, it appears there's been a lot of consolidation and it will be interesting to learn how many of the GMs remained in place.
